Given recent events, my brain is mashed potatoes, but I am a gal who tries to keep her promises.
When I made this post - bless my hopeful heart - I promised that 10% of all money I made on Substack from subscriptions (past and new) would go to reproductive rights.
I did that like two weeks ago and forgot to post about it. OOOPS. In my defense, there was a LOT happening.
I am pleased to let you know that I sent $150 (I rounded up slightly, but holy crap!) to The Brigid Alliance. Here is the description of the amazing work that they do:
For many Americans, the costs and logistical challenges of getting to an abortion provider are primary barriers to access, and it’s only getting harder. We book, coordinate and pay for travel, travel expenses, and child care, serving as a single, trusted point of contact for every step of the journey. Wherever someone needs to get to abortion care in the U.S., we find a way to get them there – through direct support and in collaboration with our network of partners.
As far as my acknowledgment being sent to JD Vance, I will admit that idea felt more fun when I had my moments of hope that they would lose (oh, sweet summer child). Sending it to him now feels…less fun. Don’t get me wrong, I still want to do it, but I also do not want this organization to be targeted by this horror show administration. Or myself, frankly! Also, it would probably be unopened by an intern or something. I think the VP office gets a whole lot of mail.
If you have a fun or creative idea, or know someone who could get a bag of flaming shit DoorDashed to his house, let me know.
AND - in the spirit of keeping this going - I will donate 10% of proceeds from now until January 1st to another worthy organization. I’d like the focus to stay on reproductive rights, so if you know of a great organization, let me know in the comments.
You can subscribe at my annual rate of $50 a year/$5 a month, but if finances are an issue, check out my Tiered Pricing options on my About page.
THANK YOU ALL AGAIN! I am so thrilled that I was able to make this donation. Y’all are the best.
Sending love, live from my couch in my PJs doing NOTHING,
KBQ

PS: feel free to hide in the bathroom and complain about your relatives in the comments. I won’t tell on you.
Thank you for your generous heart, Kari. Have a lovely, restful day.
