About Me (Kari)

Hi! I’m Kari (pronounced like “Carrie”), but my friends call me KBQ.
I have lived and worked as a playwright in New York City for over 25 years. My plays explore the intersection of personal relationships and our society at large. My plays explore issues ranging from the opioid crisis, targeted online misogyny, gun violence, queer narratives, and more.
I am a neurodivergent woman. After thirty something years of not being able to answer the question “WTF is wrong with me”, I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 41. I started this Substack to address the lack of knowledge and the intense stigma around ADHD, and advocate for the millions of undiagnosed women out there who are suffering. It is my mission to create community and solace, and work towards my own understanding of a self that was sometimes a stranger to me.
If you would like to support my work, please consider a paid subscription. Writing is work, and many of my posts involve a lot of research and time. I also supplement my income with this Substack, and I appreciate the financial buffer it’s given me during these difficult times.
Why Subscribe?
The Long Climb is not just a newsletter, it’s a community.
I view this as a place for conversation and not just me blathering on about my interests (although it is that, too). My audience tends to be neurodivergent/queer folks, but we have people from every generation, walk of life, and over 36 different countries.
My standard rate is $50/year or $5/month, or you can become a Founding Member at $100 year (with new perks).
I believe in paying writers you want to support, but I also know there are a lot of newsletters and not everyone can afford it, so in the event you want to be a paid subscriber but can’t afford the rate, please message me for options.
And, of course, there is no obligation to pay at all, or you can Buy me a Coffee.
Stay up-to-date
I usually publish once a week. You won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox.
