This was such a good (and relatable!) read. Both of my boys (4 and 6) seem to have some degree of PDA, and I often try to remind myself that while it's incredibly difficult now -- it may actually serve them well as they get older. Also, I had never seen it framed before as anxiety around executive functioning itself, but that makes SO MUCH SENSE. Thank you <3
Thank you for reading! I’m glad you found it helpful. I’m sure that at those young ages it’s an enormous pain in the ass and tries your patience daily ❤️
So chewy is this info. I have often encountered (mostly at work, sometimes with friends) situations where I think "Why are you putting more effort into avoiding the work than just doing it?" This sheds some possible light. And putting on the sports bra is a hard no a lot of times, occasionally I just settle for stretching in just the t-shirt. Negotiating with yourself is exhausting.....
Wow--this was super interesting. I've thought of some people as "contrarians" and maybe this is a lot more applicable. Transitions are hard for me, too. And my negotiations are sometimes: just do it for 10 minutes. That's all. Then you can quit. And more often then not, I'm in a groove and can do more. It's starting that's hard.
I have a contrarian streak for sure, and I've had to tamper it. I also have realized that people do not feel AS INTENSELY about certain things (especially tv, film, books, etc) as I do, and it's okay for them to like or not like something, or to even be neutral about it. But boy sometimes it sure comes out LOL.
I have wondered if our family have this profile, a friend suggested it to me a couple years ago. My youngest especially is very sociable and he uses humor a lot when he refuses to do a task but transitions especially seem very threatening to him. My brain also screams nope with the workouts, sleeping in a sports bra bizarrely helped me to work out in the morning. I hate how much you were called manipulative, it’s my biggest pain point with ND kids, how much shame is heaped on kids whose nervous system is on fire.
OMG that's genius. I usually like to let the titties run free at night, but maybe that's the secret! For some reason the act of putting the sports bra on will just stop me in my tracks. LOLLL. I will give this a go.
And yeah...it really sucks. My parents did a lot of shitty things, but in their defense, they had NO idea I was ND. Or that they were too. 😂😂😂😂
My parents never knew either, they’ve really only known for about 7 years, we all found out around the time my second kid was born and everything clicked into place at that meeting with our preschool about my oldest! Sometimes I have different levels of capacity but putting on the bra is a huge barrier for me, I’ve never heard anyone else mention that!

Ohhh interesting - yes, perhaps they have a bit of this in their particular flavor of Brain.
braless yoga happens on the regular in my home 😂
